The bad...

So, i finally went to the optometrist last week since the blurry vision is driving me nuts.

Now, I have never been a huge fan of these medical kinda things (optometrists, doctors, dentists, etc. - sorry if you happen to be one of those, it's nothing personal). It definitely wasn't the most pleasant experience.

I'd been there less than five minutes, still had my glasses on, the optometrist barely looked at my eyes and asked if I had ever considered surgery. I have never seriously considered surgery, I've always had glasses, it doesn't really bother me and I can't really afford surgery anyway. Not true apparently with a referal to the hosptial, because in her words, "you have a lazy eye and while most people might not notice, I notice and it's important for a young lady to look good" (?!?) Yes, I have a lazy eye, it is one of the reasons I wear glasses to correct that, it is noticeable without my glasses but seriously (more ?!?) way to make me feel really confident in myself! So I have been referred to the hospital for eye surgery (did I mention ?!?) that I don't actually need but because I am a cross-eyed wierdo. I don't want surgery, all I wanted was new glasses!

And what is with eye tests, they always make me feel stupid and they never tell you whether you've read the chart right or not.

The result - one referal for surgery (seriously ?!?), a new prescription (my bad eye is about the same, my good eye is worse - I guess at least they're getting close to each other), and a bill for over $500 (I liked this optometrist thing a lot more when my parents footed the bill, darn adult independence thing!) and have I considered contacts. (?!?)

dude i know all about it. the optromitiest really do like to pry money out of those with such misfortunes.

as for me, my eyesight HAS NOT CHANGED since I was 12, yet every year, they make me have a check up before I can buy contacts again. So I have to pay $60 or something for a 10min appointment where they tell me the good news: "no change". I KNOW!

as for the idea of surgery, well, it freaks me out a little. actually a lot. I know its really quite safe, but i hate the idea of anyone else poking and prodding my eyes, even thought i've stuck my fingers in my eyes twice a day for the past 11 years.
:+)

Tell me about it, ewww somebody else's finger in my eyes, someone elses finger with a knife. You're supposed to encourage people not to put sharp objects in their eys.
