This is where I'm at...
It's not often I get a chance to update this thing these days so I thought I'd just catch you all up on some things in my life at the moment.
Work - I'm still working on Te Kupu Arotau, the loan words project that I began early last year, my contract ends in May but it looks like we may not be finished till July. It can get a bit tedious at times but I enjoy the job and I recently moved from my little cubicle in the postgrad room to an actual office. I am still re-climatising as I'm not used to having sunshine or light in my work space as well as the fact that the heater is off but still works as if it's on high and if I open the window everything in my office blows away. But I am excited about the prospect of getting plants. Pesa next door has offered me a cutting from his spider plant, which I plan to name 'Peter'. I guess the geeks who read my blog will appreciate the joke.
Random holidays - I decided to check out and actually celebrate some of the holidays listed in my 2007 Collins diary, beginning officially on March 1st with St. David's day, the national day of Wales, greeting people in Whelsh, with my black t-shirt with gold cross and a daffodil, actually only one person I talked to knew what St. David's day was. And on the note of random holidays...
Lent - I challenged my flatmates to Lent, not for an religious reasons but just to prove that I could, after much deliberation I decided to give up TV, which includes DVDs and movies. That seemed like the hardest thing to give up particularly now when all the new seasons have begun and actually it hasn't been so bad. I miss DVDs most of all. Jo gave up coffee (I tried hard to get her to give up smoking) & Kat, gave up TV except... Grey's Anatomy & sport so basically all the programmes she doesn't watch.
Proust - I have been trying to read 'Captive' by Marcel Proust in place of TV. I'm not really succeeding. It isn't too bad to read but it's the type of book you have to keep reading, and I haven't really had the time to sit down and read it in large portions so by the time I pick it up again I have forgotten what's going on. So if anyone can recommend a good study guide...
Rugby - I went to my first game at Carisbrook during O' Week and loved it (true, I really went to see Elemeno P but the game was good too) so my aim is to attend as many home games this year as I can. I tried to upload a photo here in my Highlander's jester hat, face paint and fireman overalls but it hasn't seemed to work.
Paper making - My room and the laundry have been turned into a make shift studio for my latest project. I have a couple of phone books worth of dissertation that I decided to recycle into my own paper using my sister's paper recycling kit. I don't remember it being such an involved process (possibly cos my mum did all the work) but it has been suprisingly fun, if not very slow as I can only do 7 sheets at a time. It's going to be a long project.
Anyway, I thing that's all the stuff with me at the moment.
