Misadventures in plasma donation

I had my 2nd plasma donation this afternoon, it was not a pleasant experience although I did not end up in a toilet in Scotland. So I decided to alternate arms today to avoid gaining some junkie style track marks on my left arm. All was good, until the end of the first cycle when they return the red blood cells, my arm really started to hurt. The nurse came over and decided to take it out and go back to my left arm, I was keen to soldier on although a little iffy about having to do the needle thing again but then there was a light headed patch and I had to lie down. I am now a medical statistic, an incident report was filled out and I add to the statistics of what type of person is more likely to faint... I would like to point out that I didn't actually faint. So I have a kick ass bruise on my arm now, although I did get a free coffee mug. Apparently 5 visits makes you eligible for a coffee mug or a drink bottle. I'm hoping the 100th visit will be a plasma TV, plasma for plasma. Good idea I think!

Arrrr me hearties!

I love casual Fridays. I love International Speak Like A Pirate Day. I love it even more when they are the same day. So I went to work on Friday dressed like a pirate, it was great! I don't really need too much encouragement to dress in costume. Many people came up to me and commented on what a great idea it was and how come the whole office didn't do it.

Here is a great website to determine your pirate name:

Pirate Name Generator

Or a useful website on how to speak like a pirate:

How be speakin' Pirate-like

I topped my day off by gatecrashing the DCC staff party at Pirates Rugby club as the Scurvy Dogs provided entertainment - they be me one of me favourite Dunedin bands - Arrrrr! I came home with a handful of pirate prizes, condoms or rubber dinghys for rescuing Seamen.

Check out their website:

In other news I got my haircut:

Father's Day

I always enjoy the Father's Day service at church, there are always crazy competitions and prizes for the dad's and grandads. But sometimes things sneak up on you. I love Pastor Paul's stories, he was talking about stories of his dad and his relationship with his daughter, marrying his daughter, baptising his daughter, meeting his granddaughters and it made me sad because I'm never going to have those moments with my dad. I miss you everyday Dad, I miss you everday. xx

Here comes the sun!

It's a beautiful day this today, I biked out to Portobello and back just for the hell of it. It was gorgeous, Spring is springing, blossom is starting to appear around the place and it was nice to see the sun after a bit of rain this week. I love the smell of the gum trees out by Glenfalloch.

The week has been mildly horrible. I have lots of processing to do but haven't really got to it because I have been up to my eyes in queries from providers and other people round the office, plus an urgent audit that I've had to sweep under the rug because it was doing my head in and I don't really get it, it may have to be done on Tuesday when Jemma gets back from her holiday and can give me a bit of a hand, everyone else has been too flat out to help me. This is one that Nga should have done months ago before she resigned and left me with everything, I think I've had a couple of those problems this week. But that's life I guess, it doesn't always work out the way you want it to, hopefully the next pay fortnight won't be so hectic, the last one was alright.

Things have been different this week, we have a new team manager, he's a hard case who suffers from tourettes (not really), we also lost Greg and Breanne to assessments (no more Sug and Fiene, sad!)

Ooooh, we are resurrecting the Ministry of Health volleyball team. I have been looking for a new challenge/hobby, volleyball seems as good as anything. I have no hand/eye coordination and know nothing about volleyball but it will be great to get to know some other people round the office, plus hot Anthony is in the team. And we get uniforms and at the moment the team name is leaning to 'Ministry of Pain'! Cool!

I caught up with Andrew last night. We went to see [Rec] at Rialto, it is a Spanish horror film which I never got to see at the film festival. It was awesome! A good old zombie film, fantastically, squirming in your seat, edge of your seat, scary. I came out of the theatre shaking, it was great!
